"Who would have thought that there could be a Catholic school providing a tuition-free, academically rigorous program for middle-schoolers with the simple goals for preparing them for college and heaven! Yes, tuition-free!"
Welcome to Guadalupe Regional Middle School (GRMS) and to one of Brownsville’s best kept secrets.
Who would have thought that there could be a Catholic school providing a tuition-free, academically rigorous program for middle-schoolers with the simple goals for preparing them for college and heaven! Yes, tuition-free! We believe that Catholic education should not be limited to those who can pay for it, but rather should be available to any child regardless of his/her parent’s ability to pay.
Here at GRMS, as part of the NativityMiguel Coalition of School and along with traditional educational techniques, we use additional proven methods to increase a student’s chances of excelling in school and in life:
An extended day (8:15am – 4:30pm)
Supervised/guided study period every day
A house system to integrate students across grade levels
Daily activity period to expose students to a variety of co-curricular interests
Daily prayer and weekly Mass
Tutorial classes to assist students to maximize their potential (Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30pm – 6:30pm)
Our goal is to equip our students with the foundational skills and habits to successfully negotiate the academic challenges of high school and college. Integral to our approach is the nurturing of a Catholic faith that will accompany the student through life—grow and deepen as he/she develops and matures. We encourage and challenge our students to view and interpret their world in the light of Catholic moral and ethical teachings and to live their lives guided by the principles of Catholic social teaching.
We are grateful for the vision of our founding sponsoring Catholic religious congregations:
Sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament (IWBS)
Marist Brothers (FMS)
Congregation of Christian Brothers—Edmund Rice Christian Brothers (CFC)
Sister Irma Gonzalez, IWBS, Brother Leo Shea, FMS, Brother Brian Walsh, CFC shared a vision and worked together to make GRMS a reality in 2002. The mission and vision of these congregations see education as one of the primary tools for breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and ignorance that plague so many communities throughout the world where their members serve. They saw in the border communities here in Brownsville as fertile ground to plant a seed of transformation.
We are very proud of Guadalupe Regional Middle School and all that it has achieved since 2002. We would love to have you come, visit, and discover this incredible best kept secret of Brownsville.
