Middle School Language Arts Teacher

Guadalupe Regional Middle School (GRMS) is a unique and dynamic middle school actively seeking a highly skilled, passionate, educator to serve as Language Arts teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.  As part of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville (, and the NativityMiguel Coalition of Schools (, GRMS is tuition-free and serves students from low and modest income families in grades six, seven, and eight. Founded in 2002, GRMS ( is fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED) and founded by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Marist Brothers of the Schools, and the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. 


The teacher reports to the principal and is responsible for the implementation of classroom curriculum, the delivery of instruction, and the evaluation of students. The school currently enrolls approximately 80 students with a maximum school size of 90 students. Individual class sizes range from 15-25 students. The English/Language Arts class is held daily, is 90 minutes long, and there would be at least two preparations for the grade levels served.  


The full-time English/Arts teacher would instruct three sections of classes, with a planning/conference period, and assigned supervision of students. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. until 4:30 P.M.  The part-time English/Arts teacher would instruct two sections of classes, fulfill a half-day assignment, with the morning or afternoon session schedule for discussion.


Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in content area, or Bachelor’s degree with 18 credit hours in content area taught, orbachelor’s degree with state teacher certification.

  • 12 hours in education courses, or a valid, appropriate state teacher certification.

  • Technology proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet use, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education

  • State teacher certification/licensure

  • Experience working with economically at-risk youth

  • Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL)

  • Strong classroom management techniques, and student-centered lessons

  • Exception verbal and written communication skills

  • Bilingual-Spanish speaking

  • Master’s degree or pursuing a Master’s degree in Education or related-content field

Volunteer Tutor: Math, Social Studies, Language Arts, Science

Do you have a passion for education or helping young people reach their potential?


Guadalupe Regional Middle School (GRMS) in Brownsville is searching for tutors in both math, language arts,

science, and social studies.


This could be a fantastic opportunity for people hoping to become educators, work in non-profit organizations, or those who enjoy building up youth and community. This could also be great for retired or part-time teachers, folks with a degree in a related content area, those thinking about making a career change into education.


We do ask that volunteers commit to being punctual, keeping an open line of communication with our principal,

and completing a full tutoring cycle. 


Choose what works best for your schedule:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:45p-4:30p

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays only from 4:30p-6:30p

Are the times ok but not all the required days? Call us to arrange a special schedule. 


Tutors will work one-on-one with students and in small groups. All materials will be provided or can be requested. 

No experience necessary.


Volunteers will need to:

+ Complete a volunteer application in-person

+ Read and agree to a Code of Conduct

+ Watch a 1-hour video on Protecting God's Children (necessary for all Catholic school volunteers and is transferrable to other schools in the Diocese of Brownsville)

+ Complete a background check (GRMS will pay for this)
